The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology has responded positively to a proposal for organizing a large-scale Artificial Intelligence (AI) event in Sikkim. The proposal was put forward by Dr. Indra Hang Subba, Member of Parliament (MP) from Sikkim, who believes that such an event will help showcase the potential of Northeast India in the field of AI and ensure that the region plays an important role in India’s AI-driven future.

Union Minister of Electronics and Information Technology, Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw, acknowledged the significance of the proposal and assured that further discussions will be held to explore its feasibility. The minister also emphasized that the government is committed to promoting innovation, skill development, and economic growth through AI, making it an important tool for national progress.

Dr. Indra Hang Subba welcomed this encouraging response and expressed hope that the AI event in Sikkim would become a reality soon. He said, “Northeast India has immense talent and potential to contribute to India's AI landscape. A dedicated AI platform in the region will empower youth, entrepreneurs, and researchers, ensuring their active participation in the country’s digital transformation.”

The proposal focuses on the need to build human resource capability to meet the challenges and demands of the Fourth Industrial Revolution. AI is expected to play a crucial role in shaping the future by transforming various sectors, including healthcare, education, agriculture, and business. As a result, it is essential to equip people with the necessary skills to effectively integrate AI into different fields. Dr. Subba believes that proper training and exposure to AI technologies will help the youth of Northeast India stay competitive in the fast-changing digital landscape.

Sikkim, with its high literacy rate and growing interest in technology, has the potential to become a hub for AI learning and research. The state’s educational institutions can play a key role in training young minds and preparing them for careers in AI-driven industries. If the event is successfully organized, it could bring experts, policymakers, and industry leaders together to discuss how AI can be used to benefit society and drive economic growth.
