Prem Singh Tamang, the Chief Minister of Sikkim, has once again topped the popularity charts in his state, according to the latest India Today Mood of the Nation (MOTN) poll released in February 2025. Tamang achieved an impressive approval rating of 62.1 percent, securing the highest rating among all state leaders tracked in the survey.

The numbers highlight Tamang’s rapid political rise. Just a year ago, his approval rating was at a modest 26 percent. By August 2024, his rating climbed to 55.7 percent. Now, it has reached its peak, reflecting the sharpest increase among chief ministers included in the poll.

Following Tamang in popularity is Tamil Nadu’s Chief Minister MK Stalin, with a 56.8 percent approval rating. Assam’s Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma comes in third at 55.4 percent. Both leaders have maintained stable ratings over the past year, making Tamang’s rise stand out even more.

The survey involved respondents from each state, asking them to rate the performance of their own chief minister. In Sikkim, 499 respondents evaluated Tamang’s leadership, contributing to his high approval rating.

Tamang’s rise in popularity is consistent with the overall political situation in Sikkim. His party, the Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM), holds Sikkim’s single Lok Sabha seat and is a member of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA).

Other chief ministers who ranked in the top ten include Gujarat’s Bhupendrabhai Patel with a 54.2 percent approval rating and Andhra Pradesh’s Chandrababu Naidu at 46.9 percent. West Bengal’s Mamata Banerjee and Tripura’s Manik Saha had mixed ratings, while Karnataka’s Siddaramaiah saw a modest improvement at 38.9 percent.
