The Government of Sikkim successfully distributed free textbooks and uniforms to all 767 government schools across the state on the first day of the new academic session, ensuring that 40,968 students receive essential learning materials.
In a move towards inclusive and holistic education, the initiative also extended to monastic schools and Sanskrit pathshalas, reinforcing the government’s commitment to supporting diverse educational institutions.
To oversee the distribution, senior officials from the Education Department, including the Secretary (School Education), Principal Director, Directors, Additional Directors, District CEOs, Joint Directors, Deputy Directors, and Block & Sub-Division officials, were deployed across schools. They not only ensured smooth distribution but also attended the first-day "Zero Period" sessions, engaging with students and teachers to mark the beginning of the academic year.
For the second consecutive year, the government has successfully fulfilled its pledge to provide free textbooks, exercise copies, and uniforms to government school students on the first day of school. This initiative aims to reduce the financial burden on families and create equal learning opportunities for all students, strengthening the education system in Sikkim.
